A Signal Processing Framework for Agile RF Beamforming: From RF-Chain-Free to Hybrid Beamformers

چکیده

In conventional hybrid beamforming approaches, the number of radio-frequency (RF) chains is bottleneck on achievable spatial multiplexing gain. Recent studies have overcome this limitation by increasing update-rate RF beamformer. This paper presents a framework to design and evaluate such which we refer as agile beamforming, from theoretical practical points view. context, consider impact RF-chains, phase shifters' speed, resolution beamformers. Our analysis simulations indicate that even an RF-chain-free transmitter, its beamformer has no can provide promising performance compared with fully-digital systems significantly outperform Then, show shifter's limited switching speed result in signal aliasing, in-band distortion, out-of-band emissions. We introduce metrics approaches measure effects compare proposed beamformers using Gram-Schmidt orthogonalization process. Although aims present generic for deploying beamformers, it also extensive evaluations communication terms adjacent channel leakage ratio, sum-rate, power efficiency, error vector magnitude, bit-error rates.

Optimal RF Beamforming for MIMO Cognitive Networks

Secondary receivers in Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) Cognitive Radio (CR) networks combat interference from primary transmitters while equipped with whitening filters. However, when the MIMO secondary users are employing Radio Frequency (RF) beam-forming networks at the transmitter/ receiver front ends to improve the MIMO transmission performance, the whitening filters cannot perform in...

Resource Allocation for Mixed RF and Hybrid RF/FSO Relaying

In this paper, we consider a mixed RF and hybrid RF/FSO system where several mobile users transmit their data over an RF link to a relay node (e.g. a small cell base station) and the relay forwards the information to a destination (e.g. a macro cell base station) over a hybrid RF/FSO backhaul link. The relay and the destination employ multiple antennas for transmission and reception over the RF...

ESD Reliability Challenges for RF/Mixed Signal Design & Processing

It is forecasted that by 2003, a large number of applications will use CMOS technology for RF system-on-chip, such as remote control, radio modems, home system automation, etc. For example, in the home system automation, the concept is to replace the data cable between appliances by wireless link centered at 2.4GHz, with a range of approximately 8m. The reliability of the components used in the...

RF Free Ultrasonic Positioning

All wearable centric location sensing technologies must address the issue of clock synchronisation between signal transmitting systems and signal receiving systems. GPS receivers, for example, compensate for synchronisation errors by incorporating a model of the receiver clock offset in the navigation solution. Drift between satellite clocks is also monitored to keep signal data in synch with G...
